MMM. SUMMER IS HERE

I can't wait to blog this.
I'm recovering from a kickass, sweaty rock-n-roll Minnesota weekend. Friday, my actual birthday, sucked. I tend to only get depressed a few days a year, and those days are usually around my birthday. Lorika cheered me up though. You'd be surprised what hugs, presents and blowing bubbles will do for a man-child like me. (Presents = David Sedaris' Dress Your Family In Corduroy and Denim, a subscription to Film Movement, and a fab Dia de los Muertos skeleton).
Saturday
...began all-too-lovely. As I fired up the coals and our homies started showing up, I thought our sheer willpower had driven away bad weather. Our pomposity was immediately punished by monsoon rains. [ Running in from the rain MPEG, 1 MB] We just partied inside and tended the grills with umbrellas and aforementioned pompous willpower. It was chaotic, noisy, wonderful and delicious. I was so happy for everyone who came in spite of the weather, including some our favorite blogger-kindred... Duluth brothers, Sharyn + Little Man, CHEEK, and the usual suspects. Thanks to everyone who came to instill me with birthday cheer, and our house with warm-blooded goodvibe mojo.
All you cats that didn't make it... many sunny days BBQs will smile upon us soon. (Also, I hope we can catch Lane and Tina and Maxwell on the way back.)
Sunday
We dragged our spacey hungover selves to Grand Ole Day for a hot sweaty drunken Guided By Voices show. Space Waitress has the lowdown. I knew most of the songs thanks to Jonathan's hooked-on-GBV educational cd's. Sunburn, beer, sweat, my favorite rock band -- it feels like summer.

Glad you all had a good time, even with the rain. Wish I could have been there. Sounds like it was a blast! Happy belated, Chuck. Dress Your Family In Corduroy and Denim is the next on my "to read" list.

Oh my god! GBV was at Grand Ole Day? I knew there was a reason I didn't want to be in Fargo over the weekend. Didn't rain there, at least...
Happy belated birthday!

Most of the pics look like everyone is so sad or bored. Didn't you or I take any ppics that show all the fun and shenanigans that were had by all?

We weren't the least bit sad or bored (well, maybe the little man was a little sad because he didn't get to eat cake). But Chuck did manage to catch the little man when he didn't have a smile on his face, which is rare.
Thanks so much to you both for hosting us! I'll have some pics up later. But I'm guilty...of taking too many of my kid, and not enough of other guests. Doh.

Thanks you guys!
Well I do have extreme closups of Johnny and Crystal's respective tongues. And Jonathan just send a pic of me on the floor smiling like a little girl when everyone was singing happy birthday.

chuck, don't you mean "HOT-blooded goodvibe mojo"?
but seriously that was a wonderful party. You have a beautiful home in a super-kool 'hood. I was honored to present for the baptism...
... and it was fascinating to see that bloggers are actual humanoids, who can actually burp, guffaw, offend, and seduce like ordinary mortals! (I did everything but seduce, me...)

Happy b-day to my blogumentary idol! I don't know what to get the boy who already has everything, but whatever it is, it's probably alcoholic...
Big Reagan huggies!
