SOUND UNSEEN PICKS

M80

There's so much rock-doc goodness at Sound Unseen, my head a'splode. First let me recommend projects I've been involved in. If you missed the world premiere of M-80 last year, for godsakes don't miss this screening. I'm tempted to see it again. DEVO, early Suburbs, the Monochrome Set, all kinds of No-Wave madness. Oh - I did the shaky punk-rawk graphics on that one, and it was produced by Rick Fuller and my man Chris Strouth. Plays Saturday, 10/10 at 9:45 PM

Earlier Sunday, hit St. Anthony Main for the Low doc and the Wesley Willis doc (so-so but essential if you're a Willis fan). Head over to Oak Street at 7PM for the world premiere of SCENES FROM A TOUR: HOT HOUSE FLOWERS produced by my friend Shari Lamke. Especially if you like Irish music. Finally, devour the best in Minnesota music videos with SPECTRUM: MN Soundtracks Vol. 2. I'm happy to say I shot the Mike Gunther video for my pal Suzanne. She bangs chains on an oil drum in the video for "Have Mercy." Also, it has sexy ladies strippin' and dancin'. Woo-hoo!

Last but not least, if you can manage to skip the Chuck Statler retrospective, I can almost guarantee you'll laugh your ass off at JANIS FIGURE: FRANKLY, SERIOUSLY, HONESTLY. Former Twin Peaks cop Chris Mulkey drives home the cheese as the fireside narrator for this larger-than-life rock-mockumentary.

There's so much I'd like to check out, but we're going with Hop-Fu tonight, and I think that's all I'll be able to make it to. But c'mon, Superninjas *with* live DJs...how can we go wrong?
