GOODBYE SABBY

Lori was Sabby's mommy her whole life: 1990 - 2005
Sabby was the bestest and cutest kitty ever. She suffered from kidney failure for the last 3 months, and we went through valiant efforts to nurse her back to health. Amazingly, her vet visit last week (at the best vet in town - Lyndale Animal Hospital) showed her kidney and blood values had actually returned to normal. The vet was amazed and said she was a success story. Still, we knew she wasn't actually feeling that well and wasn't eating. She only weighed 4.5 pounds. Nothing too alarming, but not quite normal.
I returned from Philadelphia Saturday, and she was sitting on the steps in the sun. Lori and I went to help our friend Maggie find her missing kitty when our car started going haywire, so we dropped it off at the shop and bussed home. Later that night, Sabby had an awful seizure and there wasn't anything much we could do to help her. We called a cab, which took forever and got lost, but eventually we ended up at the U of MN Small Animal Hospital. They put her on some valium and checked her out. By that point she had lost her sight and just wasn't functioning very well. They determined it was most likely a brain tumor.
And so, we laid her to rest. She went very quickly on Lori's lap, and we cried a lot. But then we were happy she wouldn't have to suffer any more, and knew we did the right thing. Where is Sabby's spirit? Who knows. She did visit Lori in a dream.
We're having her cremated. Her ashes are going to help nourish a sweet-smelling rose bush.

Hey Chuck, sorry to hear about your loss. We lost our 21 year old kitty named Autumn last week, three days after I left. So Steph and I know how rough this must be for you. I feel better knowing Autumn and Sabby have each other to play with now.

I'm so sorry about Sabby. I'm glad to hear she visited Lori in a dream, I was hoping she might have done that (as strange as that sounds - I was thinking about Sabby this morning, and how if I ever had any doubt that animals have souls, Sabby completely erased that.)

thanks Tim and Crystal.
yeah, lori said that Sabby visited her in a dream not as Sabby, but as Sabby's spirit. kinda cool!
