My new favorite film is Caveh Zahedi's I Am a Sex Addict. Both for style -- a sort of self-effacing feature-length vlog -- and for the content. Ultimately it's Caveh's authenticity and humor that won me over. I think David Hudson nailed it on the head in his Green Cine review:

"Unlike Hollywood, which tries to tell us that the fantasy we're seeing is real, Sex Addict is honest about its dishonesties. But it's also true to the nature of memory, which is almost a dream state."

After seeing this film at M-SPIFF, we came home and I had to watch Waking Life again. I got more out of it this time. It rewards repeated viewings. I love the scene where Caveh has a "holy moment," then slowly turns into clouds.

Ugh, I haven't seen a single M-SPIFF film this year. Caveh Zahedi's movie looks sooooooo compelling. I also wanted to see the Lebanese movie Zozo, and Mongolian Ping-Pong, and Off Screen, and and and...oh well.

Ha, I thought I was the only person in the world who liked that movie. Isn't it great! He is just so peculiar but I couldn't look away for a second.

I am surprised they showed it at the festival since it has been out here on video for at least 3 years. But I am glad people got to see it.

The clips on his site are inspiring to say the least...

I love http://www.cavehzahedi.com/god_video.html the best.

Funny you mention Waking Life. I had talked about the upcoming movie A Scanner Darkly last night, and he mentioned the director's other work. He brought me the movie tonight, and I have it right in my hand.
Looks... compelling, if I may steal a word.
