STAR TRIBUNE SAYS "3 THUMBS UP!"

Get Real Film Festival brings its trendy realism to Oak Street

Tonight's lineup kicks off at 7:30 with the slick and well-researched "Blogumentary" (*** out of four stars). Local filmmaker Chuck Olsen calls 17th-century diarist Samuel Pepys "the original blogger" and traces the roots of today's political blogging to pamphleteers Thomas Paine and Samuel Adams.

"Our very democracy was founded upon personal political writing intended to inform and motivate," he notes, until the rise of mass media turned the active public into a passive audience. What seems like the flowering of a new means of communication, he argues, is actually a return to our roots. (Director present.)

Hey, and that was just my shitty rough cut!

I will learn from my DV-CINEMA debacle, I promise. Yeah, still workin' on it right now. BUT the projection booth has a backup tape in hand, sans credits. Whew!

Spacie and parents will be there. Read your interview in the City Pages. Way to be articulate and all! Wish I talked so good.

Five of us TC bloggers went to see you movie tonight.

I was inspired. I'm probably not going to get any sleep tonight... too much work to do on my blog.

Having been an Oak aficionado for some years I have to say that you rocked the house! Congrats on an awesome documentary and a great showing.

If I had more time I wanted all the bloggers to standup. Just curious.

Speaking as a member of Click's Five (I like the sound of that), we were all lamenting that we hadn't gone to CafePress or something and had T-Shirts made with our blog logos on the front and URLs on the back!
