For Sale to good home: MNstories.com

I'm looking for an organization or individual to buy, rent, or otherwise partner with Minnesota Stories. My goal was to find such a partner this summer, and I've come close with a few Minnesota media organizations. I'm still in talks with a couple of potential buyers/partners, but I've decided to open it up to speed things along. Please email me directly if you're interested, or know someone who is.

I love the site and brand I've built, but I'm increasingly consumed by new projects (The Uptake) and projects I want to get going (Gastronomical.tv, Eskimo Witch), and now a couple of big commercial client projects. The time is right to find a new mommy and daddy for Minnesota Stories. It's a citizen media channel, not a Chuck channel, but I still plan to be involved and contribute videos like so many others do. I also feel like the site could be much more if time and money were invested in it.

Please spread the word.

I'm going to start a rumor that MPR bought it.

Posted by: taylor at Aug 15, 2007 4:20:40 PM

Or maybe vita.mn. Which is less likely?

Posted by: taylor at Aug 15, 2007 4:21:08 PM

I heard the vita.mn rumor. Ha. I thought the Bartels were eying it.

Posted by: Aaron at Aug 15, 2007 4:31:10 PM

I should buy it. If only I had some money...

Posted by: Jason D. at Aug 15, 2007 4:31:33 PM

Jason- Wouldn't that be a conflict of interest? Heh.

Posted by: Aaron at Aug 15, 2007 4:34:28 PM

I think Taylor and Aaron should buy it, then hire away DeRusha!

Posted by: chuck at Aug 15, 2007 5:07:24 PM

Just got off the phone with Scoble AND Furrier. He said that MNStories is NOT a shit salad. He says buy, buy, buy!

Sorry, had to. I hope you find a good home for your baby!

"Not a shit salad"
-- John Furrier

Taylor and Aaron would be surprised at how cheaply they could hire me. I could do one of those annoying pop-up video welcome messages. "Hi. I'm tee-vee's Jason DeRusha. Welcome to Minnesota Stories, brought to you by, Pizza Hut."

Posted by: Jason D. at Aug 15, 2007 5:55:33 PM

Sadly, odds are that someone will buy it and all those who have videos posted here will now have massive intro and outro adverts plastered in.

I hope I am wrong about that.

Posted by: david Howell at Aug 15, 2007 6:48:59 PM

well, at least then you won't be able to blame me for it directly. :-)

i'm pretty opposed to pre-roll ads. fortunately, i think many of the potential suitors would feel the same or could be convinced it's a bad idea.

Posted by: chuck at Aug 15, 2007 7:39:35 PM

John Furrier should buy MNStories, keep Chuck on, and throw in a few local tech business profiles to pay the bills.

Posted by: Garrick Van Buren at Aug 16, 2007 1:04:17 AM

I wanna buy it. And then run it into the ground like...

Oh, nevermind.

"Ohh Snapped!"

I have talked to vita.mn btw.
they haven't said definite yes or no.

Posted by: chuck at Aug 20, 2007 1:12:07 AM

Good luck with the sale, Chuck. :)

Sometimes, it's easier to build a house than to keep living in it. :D

if only the worm had that kind of money. maybe ms. worm could float me a loan?

Posted by: worm 2 at Sep 3, 2007 10:15:11 PM

Pool all your wormy resources together... cheaper than a late model Volkswagen!

Posted by: chuck at Sep 4, 2007 2:36:09 PM

how about a gently used, low miles '98 (and a 1/2) jetta?

Posted by: witlessworm at Sep 4, 2007 4:14:53 PM

well, it's not out of the question!

Posted by: chuck at Sep 4, 2007 7:33:51 PM

ummm..the jetta in question is his wife's....and she's not sold on making a trade (though witless made a passionate plea)

Posted by: wittyworm at Sep 5, 2007 10:11:42 AM

she also wouldn't let me donate it to MPR. i was feeling guilty that i was their worst employee [a few years back] of all time. worst and maybe for the shortest period of time.

have you talked with the empire of publicradio.org about mnstories.com yet? i'm sure with their whole public insight journalism crusade they'd be willing to listen. if you don't have a contact, i can send you a few in web development.

Posted by: worm 2 at Sep 5, 2007 10:55:36 AM

yep, MPR was first on my list.
they were excited, but then i think they got sticker shock.
and/or couldn't sell it to the top brass.

Posted by: chuck at Sep 5, 2007 11:32:58 AM

yeah, i could see that happening. it's too bad their good people. just not a lot of cash laying around.

Posted by: worm 2 at Sep 5, 2007 6:01:18 PM

any new updates on the sale of mn stories?

if you just want a site manager (in training), who's interested in learning more about video blogging. i may know a worm 1 who has expressed interest.
