VLOG SANTA, IN HIGH DEFINITION

Hdv_still

Check out my new video camera! It's so tiny, and so high-def baby. And it was pretty cheap on the eBay. It's not my dream camera, but it'll serve me well for lots of things right now, including Minnesota Stories. My man on the west coast Eric Rice is picking one up and wanted to see some footage. Unfortunately I screwed up the compression, and there's some blue screen noise, but this will have to do. For some reason it's really difficult to find sample HC1 footage - I hope to have plenty more.

I thought I'd do a little test run of Vlog Santa, who will be making his debut this Friday on MN Stories. This is more like Gay Santa - a work in progress, obviously. Plus a little bonus high-def acne footage at the end - eww!

Sony HC1 test footage [11 MB, requires Quicktime 7]

VLOGGERCUE MIDWEST

Vloggercue
Is that a touch-screen wall?

Vloggercue Midwest has come and gone - and all you got was this lousy video. I was really happy to see filmmakers and geek-types come together to learn about videoblogging. We didn't check in with the Flash videoconference too often... too busy chatting and drinking cans of Pabst and Premium. We had some pretty deep conversation about sustainability and advertising. Thanks to everyone who showed up - let's have more of these.

Chuck got up early to check out some old media.

I walked to the convenience store to see if my vlog article wason the front page of the Pioneer Press today. Yeah, sometimes dead trees are still exciting. Read about it on my blog.

NEW VLOG TOY: Sony M1

Vlog_newcamera

Hey look, it's actually Chuck videoblogging this time! Hey, hello there me! I'm playing with my new toy: the Sony Cybershot DSC-M1. Or as I like to call him, "Flippy." You cats try out that MP4 and let me know if it works for you. My understanding is Windows Media Player doesn't play it unless it fetches a plugin of some sort - anybody know if that's changed?

Watch for some video dispatches from SXSW. I think I'll stick with this low-quality setting so I can cram lots of video on it, any maybe not recompress it. Vlog power, brothers and sisters.

VLOG ARCHIVE: DAY OF CHUCK 1/6/03

Vlog02

I'm rather busy with Blogumentary activities, so I'm digging into my deep vlog archives. I originally posted "Day of Chuck" two years ago:

I've been taken with video blogs (or... VOGs... excuse me, VLOGs) lately. Imagine. The DV revolution and the Blog revolution collide head-on. The explosion could cause a lot of unnecessary collateral damage. Then again, it may grow into a scintillating ecosystem. Today I've had my DV cam time-lapse recording my life. From waking up and going back to sleep, to working frantically at home, trying to start my car, taking the bus (where the battery died) and here at work and back home. (This won't be my first vlog entry - the Wellstone Tribute, Chuck's Acceptance Speech, and the New Year's Eve (2002) videos are all video blog fodder in my book.)

Glad to see some vlogs I linked to back then are still going strong, including vlog pioneer Adrian Miles and a really cool group vlog called demand media. Now I've come full-circle to find that scintillating ecosystem I'd hoped for. Happy to be a frog on a lillypad.
